An AI receptionist on WhatsApp: what it does for a small business, and what it should never do

Your customers already write to you on WhatsApp — at night, at lunch, while you are with another customer. Here is what an AI that answers them can honestly take off your plate.

Most small businesses do not lose customers because their product is wrong. They lose them in the gap between a message arriving and someone answering it. A clinic that replies the next morning, a restaurant that answers after the lunch rush, a shop that sees the question on Sunday evening — by then the person has usually asked someone else.

What it is, in one sentence

An AI receptionist is an assistant connected to your WhatsApp Business number that answers the questions you answer every day — prices, opening hours, location, availability — in your customer's language, at any hour, using the information you gave it rather than whatever it imagines.

What it does well

  • Answers in seconds, at 3am as well as at 3pm.
  • Switches language with the customer — French, Arabic, Darija, English — and understands voice notes.
  • Collects what a booking needs: name, service, day and time, then hands the request to you to confirm.
  • Recognises when a person is needed and passes the conversation over with a summary, so you do not start from zero.
  • Sends you a daily summary of who wrote and what they wanted.

What it must never do

The danger with any AI that talks to customers is confidence without knowledge. A good receptionist says so when it does not know, never invents a price or a promise, never pretends to be a person when asked, and never takes payment details in a chat. If a vendor cannot tell you exactly how their assistant behaves when it is unsure, keep looking.

Who it is for

It earns its keep fastest where the same questions arrive all day and a missed message is a missed booking: clinics, dentists, beauty salons, restaurants, driving schools, real estate agents, hotels and riads. If you receive fewer than a handful of messages a week, you do not need it yet.

The best way to judge one is to talk to it. Ours answers Nexure's own number — ask it what your customers would ask you.
